WELCOME TO ORLANDO!

Orlando is one of the world’s most visitor-friendly cities, thanks to its unrivaled collection of theme parks, its sun-drenched climate, and a bustling Downtown area. Family attractions indeed steal the limelight, but there’s a world of other possibilities in this Floridian city. If you’re looking for diverse shopping options, engaging nightlife, or exciting day trips to enjoy pristine nature – from the fascinating wetlands of the Everglades to some of the finest beaches on the Atlantic coast – then you’ll find it all here. Locals in Orlando are also famously friendly sorts, which you’ll no doubt experience for yourself when out and about in the city. Welcome to Orlando, make the city yours!

Orlando’s history dates to 1838 and the height of the Seminole Wars. The U.S. Army built Fort Gatlin south of the present-day Orlando City limits to protect settlers from attacks by the indigenous population. By 1840, a small community had grown up around the Fort. It was known as Jernigan, named after the Jernigan family, who had established the first permanent settlement in the area. Six years later with the settlement expanding northward, the community officially changed its name to Orlando.

History is not as clear on where the name Orlando originated. There are many stories that are told. One involves Judge James Speer, who worked hard in getting Orlando as the county seat, naming Orlando after a man who once worked for him.

If you’re looking for something to do in Orlando, but you’re not exactly a theme park person here’s a list of some of the best experiences you can have!
